Becoming a Master of Disguise...

Halloween time is FAST approaching....even worse, there is only 78 more days until Christmas. Time is FLYING by!

Do you dress up for Halloween?
If so...Have you decided what you are going to be?

Dreaming up the idea is always the best part, finding exactly what you are looking to complete the costume is not always a cheap or easy task. You don't have to depend on the Halloween sections or speciality stores for your costume, a little DIY project could create a spooktacular look for MUCH less money!

Here are a few of Parents Magazine, Real Simple & Simplicity costume ideas that might help you out or get your creativity rolling...

If you are the sewing type, Simplicity has some really fun costume patterns this year. These were some of my favorite but you can click HERE to see all their costume patterns available.

**ALSO** If you have a JoAnn's Craft Store in your area they are having a Columbus Day sale this week...October 9-12th and almost all Simplicity patterns are on sale for 99 CENTS EACH! The ad says limit 10 but last time they did this sale I purchased almost 20 patterns and they didn't limit me! They have extra coupons for Columbus Day and most of the costume type fabrics are on sale too!

If you don't know how to sew or don't have the time to get into a detailed costume I found some great throw together costume ideas for all ages...

Bathing Beauty: A plastic laundry basket with holes cut out for legs + white balloons + a shower cap

Breaking News: Staple torn newspaper sheets to old clothing.

Broccoli Spears: A green clown wig + a schoolgirl outfit

Dancing With the Stars: Cover a tutu and leotard with glow-in-the-dark star-shaped stickers.

Fallen Angel: A white dress + a pipe-cleaner halo + leaves in her hair and “dirt” on her face

Highway: Black clothes + yellow electrical tape down his torso + toy cars + Velcro

Iron Chef: Wear a chef’s hat and carry an iron.

Jay Crew: A polo shirt + khakis (or madras shorts) + a name tag

Jellyfish: A clear umbrella (preferably dome- shaped) + party streamers or metallic ribbons

Quarter Pounder: Carry a quarter in one hand and a hammer in the other.

Pig in a Blanket: A pig nose + a blanket

Partly Cloudy With a Chance of Rain: A blue T-shirt + cotton balls + tape + a water gun

Sick and Tired: Put a bicycle tire around your neck and a thermometer in your mouth.

Stick in the Mud: Wear an all-brown outfit and sew a large twig onto your chest.

(My favorite!) Smartie Pants: Glue rolls of Smarties candies onto a pair of old pants.

Tickled Pink: Don a head-to-toe pink ensemble with a pink feather boa.

DIY Happy Clown:

* Attach two plastic pot scrubbers and a colored ball to the top of a cotton cap.
* Thread plastic pot scrubbers loosely with elastic as the clown's collar
* Hot-glue or stitch three plastic pot scrubbers to the front of a one-piece jumper.
* Cinch pot scrubbers with twist ties and stitch or glue to shoes.

And don't forget about your animals!

How cute are those!!! They have dog & cat costume patterns!
There are so many cute dog costumes in the stores but it's really hard to find big sizes. As we call them, we have plus size doggies (Weimaraners) so even the XL size in the store bought dog costumes/clothes just won't work for them. So I was super happy to see Simplicity made a costume pattern for big dogs...

Both our dogs are going to be bunnies (bottom right corner of the pattern picture) That is the project I am hoping to get finished this week so stay tuned for pictures!!
